ebSERVICES IN HOUSE DEVELOPMENT

Virtual Operations is a JMX based tool for administration and monitoring of WEB applications, as well as back-end and operating system components (e.g. directory servers, database servers, and Windows NT services) underlying the applications. Complex administration tasks (sequential work flows : e.g. orderly restart of all components of a e-marketplace) can either be performed by an operator via a management web application, Virtual Operations WEB UI, or automatically by a JMX server (scheduled tasks or in response to an event generated from monitoring components). Virtual Operations modules, agents, can be accessed through a WEB service interface or in a standard JMX way, via JMX Messaging Protocol (JMX MP). The web service, unlike the JMX standard, provides enhanced security (digital signature and expiration of management requests) and can share ports with already existing web applications. In order to log administration activities, Virtual Operations can optionally be integrated (WEB service) with Task Tracker.

Virtual Operations deployment topology has no limitations (except for hardware resources). Monitoring and management agents can be deployed exactly according to the underlying WEB application administration and monitoring needs. The agents can be remotely configured via Virtual Operations WEB UI. Configurations can be easily developed and modified based on existing templates proven in real operations. Agent configurations can be modified, merged, split, and distributed without phisical access to an administered computer, providing it is allowed to restart a target agent via Virtual Operations WEB UI.
